1. What do you think will come of the midterm elections?
Though I predict that the “blue wave” will occur in both the house and the senate, I don’t think Elaine Luria, who I myself support, will have a huge chance of winning this time around but we’ll see. 🙂
2. What are your thoughts on gun control?
I am a firm supporter of the second amendment, in that guns need to be “well regulated,” just as the amendment states. I support universal background checks, registration of guns, and the “No fly, No buy” initiative.
3. Do you think there should be a wall built at the Southern border?
Building a wall of that size would be unrealistic and would cost SO MUCH MONEY. If that much money is going to be spent, it should be on things that would actually benefit our citizens (social security, healthcare, etc.)
4. Now that Brett Kavanaugh is on the Supreme Court, how do you feel about future Supreme Court cases?
Whether or not the allegations toward Kavanaugh are true, I don’t think he’s fit for the Supreme Court. The SCOTUS is supposed to be a place where people cast all political affiliations aside and simply do what the Constitution tells them to do. Kavanaugh’s opening statement was extremely political which is very frightening. I am scared for the future of the Supreme Court.
5. Should there be a cap on Supreme Court’s justices terms?
No. The lifetime appointment shields them from any political pressure to get reelected.

1. What do you think the outcome will be? I think that Scott Taylor will win because more people are in favor of Taylor.
2. What is your stand on climate change? I think that climate change is a rising issue due to evidence of the melting ice caps, warming oceans, and the rapidly increasing sea level rise. I think we need to take action before it becomes too detrimental.
3. What is your opinion on the electoral college? I think this method should be abolished because it is not equally distributed among the states. The votes per state is unfair due to the difference. Also, the electoral college tends to be in favor of the republican party.
4. What are your thoughts on the rise of women running for office in the Democratic Party? I think that this is an excellent thing for women so women have the opportunity to share their opinions and ideas in the political world.
5. Do you want to have the wall built at the Mexican border? No, I think this idea is a huge waste of money and time and will not be beneficial at all and will only lead to further issues among immigration. I do not think this is a proper solution.

Current Events 1: I believe that tax cuts for the rich are bad, since it takes away money from welfare programs for people with less money.
Current Events 2: We should not have a wall built at the Mexican border because it will waste our money, instead we should encourage people to enter legally so they can pay taxes, get good jobs and improve our economy.
Current Events 5: Climate change is definitely real, and we need to mandate that businesses are more environmentally friendly, we should also re-enter the Paris climate change agreement to show other nations that we want to make a difference.
Current Events 7: There should be a 10 year cap on Supreme Court Justices, because the future generations are not getting a say in these justices that they have to grow up under, and when they are allowed to get a say they can’t change them by voting for a different President and Congress.
Current Events 8: No, because we have already elected him and we should believe him and vote for someone more trustworthy next time.

1. Should the federal government pass more restrictive gun control legislation?
Yes because there are too many shootings occurring which reflects on the relatively easy ability to obtain guns.
2. What’s your stance on climate change? Can/should anything be done about it?
I believe climate change is very evident and it is a topic that many should consider. There needs to be more preventative measures.
3. What are your opinions on President Trump?
Although I am not political, Trump has split the country and caused wide spread violence, and he is not suitable for his position.
4. There should be an assault rifle ban because there are other ways to defend yourself and owning an AR is unreasonable.
5.Do you want to have the wall built at the Mexican border?
No because I believe a wall will not prevent immigrants from trying to cross the border and they will still find a way. Furthermore, it is immoral to me.

What are your feelings on the upcoming November election?
I am not very politically involved which makes me not have a strong opinion on any parts of the election.
What are your thoughts on the rise of women running for office in the Democratic Party?
I definitely support the rise of women running for office; however, it is still hard for women to be elected due to the fact that women haven’t been elected into office until recently. As time progresses it will become more “normal” for women to hold office and there will most likely be more women holding elected positions.
What’s your stance on climate change? Can/should anything be done about it?
Climate change is a real issue and America as a country is not doing enough to help it. I believe if there was an incentive to finding ways to prevent climate change, our nation would be able to fight it more efficiently.
Should there be a cap on Supreme Court’s justices terms?
There should be a cap on Supreme Court’s justice terms because being able to serve for life is unfair to new generations. As time progresses, views change which is why we have amended the constitution. If the justices have dated views and opinions compared to the new and relevant cases this does not completely ensure a fair trial.
What are your opinions on President Trump?
As I said before, I am not very politically active; therefore, I am not aware of everything that President Trump has done in his presidency. As of right now, our country is still fully functioning but there have been a lot of disputes over gun restrictions but no actions have been taken (that I know of). Overall I wish there would be more done about current topics that are talked about nationwide.
Quinn Corbliss • Oct 25, 2018 at 7:03 am
I feel like women running from the democratic party is completely fine, I don’t think it should really be a topic to discuss at all, it should be a normal thing.
My opinions on president Trump, I believe that Trump is making a lot of money for the country, but it’s because he stopped employing the environmental regulations on businesses which allows businesses to make a lot more money efficiently, but in a lot of ways Trump is ensuing chaos, but since it’s making money people think he is doing okay.
Climate change, it’s a terribly real, if anyone thinks otherwise they are simply ignorant or are wanting to believe that, because they need to make money without real worry for the earth.
The president should be allowed trial because if there is rule of law it should already be in place.
I think that Donald Trumps tax returns are the least of our issues because we have an entire earth to worry about, and not a piece of paper.
David A Costen • Oct 25, 2018 at 6:57 am
How do you feel about tax cuts for the upper class? What are the implications?
I feel we need more tax cuts for the upper class, as we need to take care of all of our citizens. The only implication is that the rich are less rich- one less Mercedes won’t hurt them
Do you want to have the wall built at the Mexican border?
No, the wall would be ineffective, not to mention its enormous cost and near impossibility of constructing.
Should the federal government pass more restrictive gun control legislation?
Yes, the second amendment clearly states it must be “well-regulated”, it is far too easy for dangerous people to purchase a firearm.
What is your opinion on the electoral college?
The electoral college is an outdated system that should have been replaced decades ago. It was designed to keep the “common man” from truly electing his/her leaders.
What are your opinions on President Trump?
President Trump has done nothing positive for our country, he is incredibly unqualified, and he is dangerous-he looks up to authoritarian leaders, cannot take an ounce of criticism, and knows how to manipulate people.

What are your thoughts on the rise of women running for office in the Democratic Party?
I think that the rise of women running for office in the Democratic Party is very exciting! This allows for women to have a larger say in government choice, and voice their opinions in the political world.
Should the federal government pass more restrictive gun control legislation?
I strongly believe that the government should pass more restrictive gun laws due to the revolving problems of school shootings. I think we need to take an action to protect our citizens from gun shootings across the country.
What are your opinions on President Trump?
I think that Trump has caused much chaos in the country, and I believe he is not responsible enough for office.
What do you think the outcome will be (of the upcoming election?)
I think democrats will take a majority in both the House and the Senate.
Should there be an assault rifle ban?
Yes, there is no need for a person to have an assault rifle.

Current Events
2) I do not believe a wall should be built at the southern border as it is a crude and rudimentary solution that would be largely ineffective.
3) The Russians meddled in the 2016 election. That being said, I believe that this prolonged investigation against Trump searching for ties to Russia is mostly for tabloid and I don’t care for it.
5) Climate change is a real issue, and this country is way behind on finding a solution to it. Politicians denying it are selfish and nearsighted, and I believe something needs to be done with urgency. Unfortunately, I don’t think we have the urgency in our government to do so.
7) There should not be a cap on SCOTUS justices’ terms.
Gun Control
3) I believe in the electoral college system as America is such a large, diverse nation that different interests need to be recognized, which would not typically have as much of a say in a popular vote.
Ben Purvis • Oct 24, 2018 at 2:38 pm
1) I am anxious for the results of the upcoming midterm election because, per tradition, the results of the election help to determine the Presidential election.
2) I feel like the democrats will more than likely take a majority in both the House and the Senate.
3) I think that women running for public office in the Democratic Party is the right move. It is time for gender equality in this country.
4) I would vote for Elaine Luria in the election.
5) Luria is qualified because she has extensive leadership training from her time in the Navy and is well informed on the issues at hand.
6) Taylor’s alleged election fraud is a disgrace to the Republican party and to the district at large. I believe that this allegation deserves deep and thorough investigation.
7) I feel like tax cuts for the upper class are counter productive and only help the rich get richer. It implies that if you are wealthy in this country you have won and that if you’re poor you should be punished.
8) I do not want the wall to be built on the Mexican border because crossing the border is not were a majority of immigrants are coming from and because it is too costly and inefficent.
9) I believe that it is important in finding out what really happened in the 2016 election. There is clear evidence of Russian interference and it is important to get to the bottom of it.
10) I feel like our current immigration policy is improper considering the United States is a nation of immigrants.
11) I believe that climate change is real and that we can and should lower our emissions to help slow its effects while we figure out how to reverse it.
12) I am concerned for future Supreme Court cases because the court is now controlled by Conservatives that are more right than in recent history.
13) I do not believe in there being a cap to Supreme Court Justices terms because they tend to retire when they need to.
14) The President should be allowed to be tried in office because even he is not above the law.
15) Trump should show us his tax returns because this is a common courtesy of an elected official.
16) Yes, because gun control in this country is too weak to handle the school shooting epidemic that has emerged.
17) Yes, because an assault weapon is designed to be a weapon of war and there is no reason for an average citizen to need that.
18) I feel that the electoral college is a fine system; however, I would prefer changing it to a popular vote system.
19) I believe that President Trump is unfit for office and is a disgrace to the White House.

1.Should the federal government pass more restrictive gun control legislation?
Yes, they should pass more restrictive gun laws. Right now, basically anybody could get a gun. If a person wants to buy a gun they should have a clean background. Also, it’s been proven that with stricter gun laws, there are less mass shootings etc.
2.What’s your stance on climate change? Can/should anything be done about it?
I think that people should start to think more about how to avoid the climate change “getting stronger”. It has been going on for years and it will affect the whole world a lot. All countries should adress the issue and there still can be something done before it’s too late.
3.Should there be an assault rifle ban?
Yes, there is no need for a person to have an assault rifle.
4.Do you want to have the wall built at the Mexican border?
Absolutely not, it’s an awful idea and is wrong in so many ways.
5.What is your opinion on the electoral college?
I think it’s unfair and way too outdated to use nowadays. It’s unfair to the citizens.
Karina Monroy • Oct 24, 2018 at 8:36 am
Should the federal government pass more restrictive gun control legislation?
Yes the government does need to pass more restrictive gun laws, as of now it is way too easy for just anyone to get a gun. There should be background checks/ psychological checks and whether or not you are a convicted criminal should have an impact on whether or not you can get a gun.
Should there be an assault rifle ban?
Yes there is no need for a person to have access to an assault rifle
What is your opinion on the electoral college?
I think that we should not have an electoral college since it gives less say to the population and people should be able to believe that their votes count
Should the president be allowed to be tried in office?
Yes if our leader broke the law then he/she should stand trial to be found innocent or guilty
Should there be a cap on Supreme Court’s justices terms?
I do no think that there should be a cap on supreme justice terms because in a court setting there must be consistency and changing judges will negatively affect the accuracy of court cases

1. What are your thoughts on the rise of women running for office in the Democratic Party?
I think that the rise of women running for office in the democratic party is incredibly exciting, as women have now begun the long road to equality. I believe it is incredibly important to have the opinions of women in office, so it is important that women continue to involve themselves in politics.
2. Do you want to have the wall built at the Mexican border?
I do not believe in building a wall at the Mexican border, because not only do I disagree morally with the idea but it would be expensive, time consuming and ultimately ineffective in its proposed result.
3. Should the federal government pass more restrictive gun control legislation?
I believe that the federal government should definitely pass more restrictive gun laws in an attempt to reduce the spread of firearms to those who may be seen as incompetent or potentially dangerous.
4. Should there be an assault rifle ban?
In my opinion, there should be an assault rifle ban because there is no defensible or natural reason for an american to need an assault rifle other than for pleasure.
5. What is your opinion on the electoral college?
The electoral college was invented during a time period where the general population of America, and the world, were uneducated farmers. A lot has changed since then, and I believe that at this point in time there is no longer a need for this previous protection. We have reached a point where the general population is educated enough to make a decision, whether it be truly informed or not, about what they want and with the electoral college the voice of the people is often lost.

1. What do you think the outcome will be?
I think Scott Taylor will end up winning. He seems to be up in the poles.
2. What are your opinions on President Trump?
I think he has had decent progress on our economy; I will admit that. However, I think he is wildly unprofessional, and he really needs to deactivate his twitter because it is not helping prove his professionalism. I think the republican party has better candidates for presidency.
3.Should the federal government pass more restrictive gun control legislation?
I think we need to focus, for now, on enforcing the gun laws we have now. I think this is a fair compromise for both parties. Nonetheless, Guns are a problem. Guns should never be in the hands of people who cannot handle the responsibility of owning one. Stricter background checks are a must.
4.Do you want to have the wall built at the Mexican border?
This proposed wall seems ridiculous, if I’m being honest. America has numerous more efficient uses of the tax payers dollars. Immigration is a pressing issue, but this wall solves nothing.
5. Now that Brett Kavanaugh is on the Supreme Court, how do you feel about future Supreme Court cases?
Whether the accusations are true or not, it is still a huge deal. I can’t speak for Justice Kavanaugh, but from the outside looking in, It seems he would be biased to the accused in cases of sexual assault. Since he has been accused of sexual assault, he may lean more to believing the person accused instead of remaining unbiased because he has been in the situation of accusation before. I am in no way saying whether I think he is innocent or not because I will never know, but a situation like this can make him an unfair judge. I am not trying to insult Justice Kavanaugh’s character or say he is a bad judge; I just feel it may be hard for him to be impartial.

Gun Control
1. I believe the federal government needs to have more restrictions on guns so they don’t fall into the hands of the wrong person.
2. I believe there should be an assault rifle ban because who needs an assault rifle.
3. I think the electoral college is unfair because it ignores U.S. Citizens opinions and voices.
Trump
1. I do not like Trump. I think he doesn’t know what he is talking about. I think his idea about building a wall is not effective. Splitting families up is horrible.
Congressional Election
1. My feelings on the upcoming election is confused because I don’t really know what each person’s view is.
