2022 Met Gala looks

The Met Gala is the biggest fashion fundraiser in modern-day, previously known as the Costume Institute Gala. This much-anticipated event is held once a year to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

This event is known for having the most out-of-the-box looks, engaging fashion themes, and outstanding designs.

On May 2, the gala was held with the theme “Gilded Glamour,” which was heavily inspired by New York’s Gilded Age.

Many celebrities hit the spot with this year’s theme, while others missed the mark.
This year’s best-dressed winners were singer/songwriter Billie Eilish, singer Sza, and actress Blake Lively in a custom color changing gown inspired by the Statue of Liberty designed by Versace, which really captured the theme of old gilded New York glamour by being modeled after the city’s biggest landmark.

On the other side of the spectrum, we have the worst dressed who just didn’t hit this year’s theme. Model Emily Ratajowski and actor Sebastian Stan were a couple of the many celebrities that failed to embody the “old glamour” look.

Model Kylie Jenner wore a custom wedding gown by Off-White, paired with a baseball cap and veil which gives more laid-back wedding attire than glamour.

The most controversial look of the night was Kim Kardashian wearing a gown by Bob Mackie which was originally worn by Marilyn Monroe when she sang “Happy Birthday Mr. President ” to John F. Kennedy. Many people were not pleased with Kim’s choice to wear such a monumental dress, saying it is dishonorable to Marilyn. However, others loved the fact that she wore such an iconic gown to show honor and respect to her. In my opinion, the dress should have been left alone and stayed for what it’s known for and to not be messed with by others.

The 2022 Met Gala was definitely one for the books that will go down as one of the biggest themes in fashion history.
