As the spring season gets into full swing, anticipation mounts among the PA Girls Tennis Team for their game on March 25 against Frank W. Cox High School. After ending the previous season on a high note as 5A Region Champions with a regular season record of 9-0, also usually winning all six singles and all three doubles matches held, the roster is again brimming with talent and determination to have another strong season.
“I’m hoping to get higher up on the team this year, and be able to play more competitively,” said junior Liliana Fallin. “The roster looks good, and we have some amazing girls,” she explained. Fallin is hoping for another great season with her teammates and to improve even more with the new tennis Coach Chris Yost. “I’m excited to get to know him better and how he’ll improve our team,” said Fallin.
Senior captain Ellery Wetzler agrees with Fallin and is looking forward to this upcoming season and the newly awaited competition. “We have high hopes to continue our reign as region champs and make it to the states tournament like last year,” said Wetzler.
Wetzler goes on to relay how the roster is “filled with a lot of rookies and new starters” and how the first matches will be a big learning curve for new athletes. However, Weztler emphasizes that the PA girls tennis team will overcome their uncertainties over time. “We don’t know what to expect, but we are excited to see what the future holds,” she said.
“Hopefully we’ll have another great season this year,” said junior captain Laine Kwong. She shares Wetzler’s appraisal of the team this year, saying, “We have a few new faces on the team, so it’ll be different.” Kwong expresses how she hopes the tennis team will continue to show determination and prove themselves once again.
In preparation for the upcoming season, the returning state runners-up are gearing up to defend their standing and hoping for many back-to-back victories. As the Girls Tennis Team looks ahead, one thing is certain: they’re ready to take on whatever challenges that come their way through strong teamwork and determination.
