The Cavaliers Boys Lacrosse team finds themselves ranked amongst the top ten teams in this year’s 757 preseason standings by SportsPlug 757. With a deeply experienced roster consisting of nearly 15 seniors, the team hopes to improve on its regular and postseason performances from last year.
Three-year player and team captain, senior Jonathan Caldwell, was initially surprised at the team’s high ranking. “I thought people would think worse, but it was a good surprise that people have taken notice of our hard work,” he explained. “I think that it’s exciting to see the expectations, but regardless of what other people say, I know who I have on my team and I am really excited to see what we have.”
Caldwell believes the team has what it takes to go far in this coming season, but is careful not to let preseason rankings distract him. “Rankings are nice to think about before the season starts, but what matters is what happens once we start playing. For a lot of guys, this is their last chance…[before] college, so everyone has something to play for.”
Lastly, Caldwell elaborated on how he believes the team’s experience will help them find success throughout this season and give them an edge over a majority of the regional competition. “I definitely think [seniority] does [help] because we have a lot of guys who are familiar with what good teams look like…The seniority on our team gives us a great advantage with lots of experience all over the field.”
The Cavaliers Boys Lacrosse team will be led by a not-so-new face this coming season, as last year’s varsity assistant Kim Eldridge will take the reins in hopes of improving on 2023’s 6-4 regular season record and one playoff victory.
Key player, senior Derek Lindenberg, is excited about the hire and is looking forward to a fresh point of view and rich experience at the helm. “Coach Kim brings a new energy and winning mentality to our team,” Lindenberg describes. “Her experience coaching at all levels has brought lots of new perspectives that have been met well by the team. I can confidently say we’re all super excited for what the season holds.”
Players and spectators alike are expecting big things from the Cavaliers Boys Lacrosse team this season. With experience at all levels, they hope to vastly improve on last season’s performance and make a splash in the waters of 757 Lacrosse.
