Celebrations for Princess Anne’s 70th anniversary culminated in the Cavalier Carnival on April 20, bringing alumni, teachers and current students together to honor the school’s founding in 1954.
The school was open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for tours around the building while clubs and student organizations led games and fundraisers. In the library, alumni were able to look back through all of the yearbooks and a “timeline” of photos and current events, showing what was happening in the world while students attended PA.
The Carnival was planned and run by a committee of students and teachers. English teacher Kelly Boyd was chair of the committee and explained the event was very successful in uniting the greater PA community. According to Boyd, many alumni from various years were able to reconnect and share their various stories of PA.
“I keep getting wonderful reports so far from teachers and administrators,” said Boyd. “[People shared] happy stories all day, alumni reunited, I saw lots of people pointing at their picture in the yearbook or on the timeline.” Ultimately, Boyd explained, the event was filled with “people seeing themselves and reminiscing about what times were like back then.”
Junior Gerald Guzman was part of the group of students in the National Honor Society that led tours around the building, explaining its history. “I really loved [showing] the guests around,” he explained. “The alumni were so sweet and it was really nice to see how much they enjoyed being back.”
Earlier this year, celebrations of PA’s 70th anniversary were also conducted during homecoming, mainly focused on alumni. Alumni throughout the decades each rode in their own float during the homecoming parade, and before the homecoming dance, tours were also given throughout the building.
