Welcome to the fourth edition of the Page’s Homecoming week column. The dance is almost upon us! As the best week of the school year comes to an end, let’s finish it out with a bang and make the most of what we have left. Without further ado, let’s dive into the events of today.
Today’s spirit week theme was Soccer Moms vs. Barbecue Dads, and boy, did we PA students show out. I saw more barbecue dads than soccer moms, but I loved every single outfit I saw. I saw girls with scraggly, drawn-on beards and aprons stuffed with pillows, and don’t forget the knee-high socks. In general, the participation today did not disappoint, and it showed that this idea can definitely be recycled for next year. Honestly, I hope we do this again so I can show out and not be basic; I didn’t realize people were actually going to go all out, so I regret not getting my fake belly or beard wig. Maybe next year you’ll see me walking around with a pot belly and possibly even wheeling a grill around.
The main event of today was the Homecoming hall decorating. Students were allowed to stay until 10 p.m. to assist their class in the decoration of their assigned halls. This was my first year staying to decorate and set up the halls for Friday morning judging, and I must say I’m exhausted. One long day of school, a volleyball game, and four hours of decorating added up to an intense need for caffeine. Not to mention, any actors or other willing volunteers can show up to school starting at 6:15 a.m. for any additional help their class may need before the judges come around and begin scoring. Tonight was tiring but definitely worth it. I was able to try to lead my class to hallway victory and bond with some classmates.
The only thing I wasn’t fond of was the fact that we couldn’t visit other grades’ hallways the night before. What if I want a preview of what they’re up to? It’s not like I can copy what other classes have; we all have different themes. Also, how much can you really copy in one night? Everything is already sort of pre-established. Other than that, tonight was fun and worth the loss of a little sleep. If you didn’t come this year, round up some of your friends and join your class next year. Ruin your sleep schedule for one night! Don’t you want to be in school after hours doing arts and crafts?
Let’s make the rest of this week unforgettable and create memories we’ll never be able to forget! Thank you for joining today. Come back tomorrow, where we dive into the second most eventful night of the week and review the winners of the hallways.
