Hello Cavs, and welcome back to the column. It’s almost the end of everyone’s favorite week, Homecoming. It’s finally Friday, the day of the Homecoming pep rally, parade, and football game. So, let’s get into today’s events in all their glory!
This morning, bright and early, actors and volunteers stepped foot into the school at 6:15 a.m., ready to prepare for the Homecoming Hallways judging. Volunteers had until 6:50 a.m. to work on their halls just in time for the judges to walk through. By the time judging was done, students walked through starting at 7:00 a.m., up until the school day began at around 7:30 a.m. The halls were buzzing with decorations, music, and anticipation as every class awaited its results. I was on pins and needles all morning, hoping nothing would go wrong until after judging was over. I had never worried about decorations that much in my life.
Before the school day was over, PA students headed out to the football field for the Homecoming pep rally, another one of my favorite traditions. As a fall athlete, I was ecstatic to be able to leave class early just to stand on the field and support my team captain. For a game, the sports team captains all put on wigs and had to “snatch” them off each other. Watching the tall football and boys’ volleyball captains against the short field hockey and girls’ volleyball captains, trying to snatch each other’s wigs off, was hilarious.
Finally, the moment we all waited for, the hallway winners were announced. From last to first place, here’s the ranking: juniors, sophomores, seniors, and freshmen for the win! I have never seen a freshman class thrive the way the freshmen did this year. Congratulations everyone! Overall, this year’s halls were a real treat, and the creativity was evident in every hall.
After that, the dazzling Cavalettes dance team performed for the school and put on a show like always. We could never forget about our amazing cheerleaders with all their stunts and spirit. Honestly, I can never understand how the cheerleaders have the guts to just flip and get thrown all the time. It scares me to death just watching. Other than my growing fear for cheerleaders’ safety, the pep rally was a big success and a perfect way to end the school week.
There’s nothing better than FNL, and tonight was more electric than any normal Friday night football game. The stands were filled with PA alumni, families, and eager students; the overall vibe was unmatched. Although we didn’t win, we made the most of the night. Even though I’m not a football fan, I can admit that nothing beats the feeling of everyone in the bleachers cheering after the first touchdown. During halftime, we were introduced to our Homecoming court and Homecoming king and queen. Congratulations to: Diego Cobos, Emma Helwig, Trinity Swanson, and Zachary Zimmerman on winning homecoming king and queen titles! Overall, the community and the students at the game made our loss not so bitter after all.
I hope everyone is preparing their attire for tomorrow night. I’m so excited that I might go to bed in my dress. Or, maybe not. Do you think sequins are comfortable to sleep in? Either way, be ready for a parade of dresses, ties, and cameras flashing because tomorrow is the long-anticipated Homecoming Dance. Come back tomorrow for the final edition of the column. Thanks for tuning in!
