Yesterday, 19 senior athletes participated in National Signing Day and committed to continue their athletic journey through college. A nationwide event that involves the top talent of high school sports, National Signing Day marks the start of the final period of college athletic commitments for the upcoming year. This was Princess Anne’s fifth annual signing day, which is held simultaneously with high schools across the country.
The Class of 2025 commits will attend a variety of schools across the United States. 11 of PA’s athletic teams had at least one player commit, with the baseball team leading PA in five players committing. Students will attend schools varying in athletic division, with four signing on to Division I schools to compete at the highest level of college sports.
Student Activities Coordinator Jauron Brumage presided over the event, and in his opening remarks he commended the athletes for their “commitment, sacrifice, and academic achievement.” Brumage highlighted both the athletic and academic achievements of the students, and said they “embody what it means to be a Princess Anne Cavalier.”
The ceremony, held in the auditorium, hosted the families, teammates, classmates, teachers, and coaches of those signing, allowing the athletes to celebrate with many of those who have assisted them in their high school sports journey. Twice as many athletes were present yesterday than at last year’s ceremony, indicating the growth in Princess Anne athletic success that has enabled recent state titles in Boys Soccer and Girls Basketball, as well as numerous regional championships.
Senior Kishin Togashi, a member of the Boys soccer team that won a state title in 2023, said that it “feels great” to have committed to play at Virginia Commonwealth University, and that he is “pretty excited about this next chapter.” He described how discipline was a major factor in his athletic success, saying that while many of his opponents over the years were more talented than him, “not a lot of people have had the hard work and dedication that I have.” Togashi said he was “blessed” to have the support of his friends, family, and coaches.
“Commitment, effort, perseverance, and my family” were important factors for senior Sydney Raguini, who will be playing field hockey at James Madison University. By committing to play for the Dukes, she feels like she “crossed a check off my bucket list.” Raguini is looking forward to the college experience starting competition in Harrisonburg.
