The 2025 PA Field Hockey season has officially ended, with a record of 6-11, ending their season on a high note on Oct. 23 with a 9-0 win against Salem. The team’s players explained their triumphs and hardships, along with highlights about what they love about the team.
The team started the season with many obstacles, but grew its skills as it continued. They ended the season with six wins against Bayside, Green Run, Landstown, Tallwood, Deep Creek, and Salem. Though they lost eleven games, those losses became closer in score and competition towards the end of the season.
According to sophomore Corinne Daugherty, the team improved as the season continued. “A lot of our losses were very close, some only by one goal,” she explained. She later added that even through the difficulties, the team kept a positive attitude and continued to work well together.
Senior Kelsie Manugo, one of the team captains, commented, “This season was definitely a building year for the team,” she explained. “We have a very young team and around five starting freshmen.” She added that as the team grows together throughout the rest of their high school careers, they will be more successful.
Sophomore Brooke Ferlauto agreed: “We lost a lot of seniors who were starters last year. This year, we have a lot of freshmen. Our team just has not played that many years together yet.” She explained that the starting lineup had never played together yet, so they have worked on building together as a team this season.
Similarly, Junior Reese Klute, a junior team captain, explained the struggles of the season. “It has been a learning season. We lost a lot of upperclassmen last year, so it is definitely a younger team,” she added. “I think there have been some disappointments, but we’ve learned a lot.”
Ferlato explained that her favorite part of the season was playing Kellam. They lost 2-1, but it was a personal achievement when she scored during the game, Ferlauto added, because the Kellam team is ranked 3rd in the Beach Region, according to MaxPreps. “I was proud of how the team played against them,” she added.
Other highlights of the season were the activities that the team did together outside of field hockey. Klute explained that she enjoyed the pre-game team dinners because they “helped the team get closer as a community.” She also enjoyed the team trip to Richmond.
The team attended an invitational tournament in Richmond, Manugo explained. “The trip was a lot of fun because we got to stay in the same hotel and get to know each other a lot better,” she explained. “It helped us bond and get closer as a team.”
The PA team community has piqued an interest in the sport for many of its members, Daugherty explained. “The people and the tight community on the team sparked my interest in this sport,” she remarked. “I like how we are always looking out for each other, like we are friends outside of games and practice, which I love.”
“We prioritize team culture on the team,” Manugo added. “I think that our tight team culture really helps us work better together on the field.” Throughout the season, the team participated in an activity called Secret Sister, where they purchased gifts for each other before their games.
Ferlauto remarked, “Even though we did not get the results we wanted, I think this season was very successful in rebuilding our team and bonding. I am excited for next year!”
