Hello Cavs, welcome to the last edition of the Homecoming week column, which marks the final day of this glorious week. It has been a week filled with school spirit, memories, and a lot of fun. So, let’s reflect on the amazing time we had this week and build our hopes for next fall, when this great tradition comes back around.
Tonight was filled with sequins, flashlights, and, truthfully, lots of sweat. Every year, Homecoming is hot, which my poor flat-ironed hair can never take, but this year it was particularly baking. I feel like last year was more packed; I don’t remember seeing any part of the floor because there were so many people there. Even with all those people, it wasn’t as bad as it was this year. Looking back on photos, you can see people’s hair sticking to their foreheads and many ties loosened
Despite the “Great AC Drought,” tonight proved the thesis I have been prosecuting all week. After raving about Homecoming for this column, tonight became my main selling point. Despite a couple of music failures, like the lack of a proper slow song and the unnecessary remixes, it was truly an amazing night. A lot of other schools complained about their DJ, but I thought the songs played were fairly popular and varied, and the only flop they played was “Doot Doot”. I’m serious, after the teachers’ stunt on Tuesday, I can’t even giggle at a 6-7 joke, hearing that song during the night made me cringe.
One of my favorite things about this week and the dance in particular is the way it brings people together. I danced next to people I would never talk to regularly, but because we were all there for a good time, it didn’t matter. Despite my hatred for trains at dances, I can’t ever stop myself from being dragged in.
Tonight was the perfect way to end the week. It was full of joy, laughter, and truly unforgettable. Homecoming will honestly never disappoint me, and tonight was just the icing on the cake. While I’m sad to see this week go, tonight will leave me with a taste of Homecoming that will satisfy my needs until next October. I hope this column helped broaden your view on school events and excited you for next year. Thank you all for tuning in on this wild ride, until next year Cavs!
